Staying at the Clarion Suites Roatan at Pineapple Villas

A while back my sister won a weeklong stay at the Clarion Suites Roatan at Pineapple Villas when she entered a contest at a local travel show. She invited me to spend the week of Thanksgiving with her and her husband, and figuring I would likely never have another reason to visit Roatan, I took her up on the offer.

Roatan is an island belonging to the nation of Honduras and is located in the Caribbean. It was nice to go somewhere nice and warm and hang out at the beach before the impending New Mexican winter arrived.

For the week, we stayed in one of the Clarion Suites' two bedroom condos. Each bedroom had an ensuite bathroom.

My bedroom

The condo was super spacious and functional with a large kitchen, dining room, living room and patio.

Our kitchen was fully stocked which made preparing some of our meals easy and convenient.

Our condo unit also had a washer and dryer, which was great since we were staying for the whole week. I actually packed lighter than I normally would because I knew that we would be able to do laundry easily.

Dining Options

The Clarion Suites has two dining options on property. Herby's Sports Bar & Grill offers pub food and drinks throughout the day. It also has themed nights throughout the week, like karaoke and live music.

We enjoyed drinks and a few meals there during our stay.

The Pineapple Grill is the second place to eat. We enjoyed our first dinner there. I had the surf and turf plate.

We found out before our trip that The Pineapple Grill would be serving Thanksgiving dinner! All of us were so excited. It was nice not having to cook the meal but still be able to enjoy the holiday!

We had turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, veggies, corn, bread, cranberry sauce, and a sweet potato bake.

And, of course, pumpkin pie for dessert. All of the food was delicious!

We also ate breakfast at The Pineapple Grill a few times. I had a typical Honduran breakfast, which consisted of tortillas, eggs, beans, cheese, avocado, crema and fresh fruit.

The Pineapple Grill is open daily for breakfast but their opening days for dinner seem to be inconsistent, so check with the hotel for the correct days.

Spa and Pools

La Pina Spa & Wellness Center is located on property and offers a full menu of spa services, sauna and fitness center. I had a massage at the spa and it was a nice and relaxing way to spend an hour.

I only visited the fitness center one time during our stay and it was functional. It seemed like a lot of locals use the fitness center as well. They offer monthly memberships. It may even be one of the few gyms on the island.

The property has a number of pools, including a larger one that is located adjacent to the Spa.

Each of the buildings also has its own swimming pool.

We had a pleasant stay at the Pineapple Villas, but I do have two major complaints. First, the WiFi did not work at all in my bedroom. This was extremely inconvenient for me, especially at night. Second, the location of the resort is not ideal. Since we did not have a car, going off property was a bit of a hassle and often expensive. At times, we felt stuck at the resort after we had returned from a day of activity. It would be a long wait and an expensive ride to go out for dinner or do anything else at night, so we usually just stayed at the resort instead.
